The News

Lara Stone is on the cover of this month’s Vogue and in the accompanying interview she talks about her battle with alcoholism and how she spent 4 weeks in Rehab this year. When we saw her at the Mulberry party at LFW, we did remark that she looked rather serious and sober, but this revelation would seem to explain her abstemious attitude. Also at that party was David Walliams – no surprises there as Walliams loves a good fashion bash – but here’s the surprise: according to the Daily Mail website, the pair have been "have been spending nights together watching TV and going out for secret dinners around London” and are “head-over-heels in love”. WTF? Okay I could deal with David Walliams sleazing on Abi Titmuss and Patsy Kensit, but Lara Stone aka the prettiest girl in the world?! This is the weirdest couple ever. I know that pretty girls often go for funny guys but why didn’t she choose Noel Fielding or my other The Portmanteau half’s crush, David Mitchell. Okay yeah I guess that would be pushing it. That would be the weirdest couple ever.

In other news, Suri Cruise has totally lost it. This time last year, we were so into her. I was obsessed with her little dresses and even cut my hair into a Suri-esque bob. But yeah we’re over it. Sorry Surs, but leggings under dresses are so 2 years ago and the freaking out in the ice-cream parlour incident was so not cool. In fact we have coined a new phrase – Pulling A Suri – which basically means that you go nuts/start crying uncontrollably for no particular reason. I’ll put that into a sentence for you: I was walking down Holland Park Avenue and a bus splashed me and then a cyclist shouted at me and I totally lost it and started bawling; basically I pulled a Suri. Toddler Style

2008 was Suri’s year – The Portmanteau hailed her as a style icon and fashionistas everywhere were influenced by her bob, Mary Janes and little dress and cardigan combos. It seems though that everybody’s favourite toddler could have a challenger in the shape of one Shiloh Pitt-Jolie. Shiloh had been keeping a low profile – perhaps as a result of Angelina’s blob comment – but was pictured in Washington DC recently working a tomboy look. Her long blonde hair and beautiful pout means that Shiloh can wear jeans and a hoodie without attracting those “And what's the little fella's name?” comments that dogged me as a toddler. One to watch!

Fashion Favourites of 2008

We’ve spent the last week eating turkey sandwiches, drinking wine, making small talk with people we went to primary school with and flicking through old Grazias. Gosh, I love Christmas. Between tales of plucky singletons and weirdly incongruous pieces on disadvantaged children is Grazia’s best dressed list for 2008. Top of the list is Gwyneth, praised for her short dresses, tuxedo jackets and incredibly high heels. Whilst I do sort of like some of Gwyneth’s 08 OFs, I find her whole transformation a tad try-hard and sterile. It’s too obviously the work of a stylist. Ditto Cheryl Cole who also makes an appearance on the list. Don’t get me wrong – I love Cheryl as much as the next person but I get the feeling that those cute little dresses might have something to do with Victoria Adcock, her new stylist.

Katie Holmes is also praised, mainly for her denim choices. Now this I don’t get at all. I know she wears a lot of different styles of jeans - baggy, skinny, boyfriend, rolled-up, etc - but blah. There are only so many photos of Katie wearing a beige t-shirt and a pair of jeans whilst on her way to All My Sons rehearsals that I can take. Instead it’s her little companion, Suri, who comes top of our list. I know she’s kind of a robot-child, but she’s a very cute and fashionable robot-child. I love her lady-like dresses and patent Mary Janes. Toddler Suri is actually the inspiration behind many of my own 2008 looks, including my brunette bob!
